Survey Crew Chief
As a Crew Chief, you will lead and oversee survey field operations, ensuring accurate data collection, crew safety, and project efficiency. You will be responsible for coordinating with project managers, guiding junior team members, and serving as the primary point of contact in the field.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
- Understand and manage the roles and responsibilities of each staff member on the crew
- Ensure accurate and timely input of time into Unanet with definitive descriptions for all crew members
- Meet with Survey and Engineering staff to understand the scope, schedule, and budget before starting projects
- Engage with project managers on issues or concerns while on site, providing schedule updates as necessary
- Take responsibility for providing accurate survey data
- Implement and follow established ACRO procedures for point placement, traverse geometry, and measure-ups
- Provide clear notes on look sheets, traverse control, point numbers, etc.
- Take comprehensive site pictures, including all monuments, to assist office staff in correctly drawing the site
- Understand and correct equipment errors as needed
- Adapt to and solve problems encountered on site
- Ensure safety and productivity of the crew
- Take responsibility for the actions of the crew
- Schedule and oversee truck and equipment maintenance
- Review the “Survey” calendar to understand and plan projects for the week
- Ensure daily completion of log sheets (iron, caps, lath, etc.)
- Provide clear and concise direction for the crew
- Engage professionally with personnel from client organizations, utility companies, municipalities, and private property owners
- Coach and mentor junior level crew members
- Communicate actively with project managers each morning and evening, discussing daily expectations and relaying any issues or questions encountered

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in land surveying, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Certifications: Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred
- Skills:
- Proficiency in operating various survey instruments and related software
- Strong understanding of survey mathematics and data analysis
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Valid driver’s license
